Origins of Learning Services (SEN) Ltd

Learning Services (SEN) Ltd was established as a private limited company and began service agreements with client schools in Warwickshire in April 2002. Whilst independent from the Local Education Authority, the service works closely with external service providers in education and health, to support and advise schools on behalf of children with special educational needs.

Heather Stack - Director & SEN Consultant

Heather has worked in special educational needs across a range of disciplines over the past 14 years in Staffordshire and Warwickshire. She has supported children as a teacher in special school settings, both day and residential, and as a specialist teacher for Staffordshire’s SENSS and Warwickshire’s LABSS. She works with and advises on behalf of children with a range of learning difficulties, behaviour, emotional and social difficulties and autistic spectrum disorder.

She brings in other consultants as required by the client

The formation of Learning Services (SEN) Ltd came about from a desire to select those elements of best practice and provision for schools that have been seen our work with many Head Teachers, SENCos, teachers and students.

Inclusion Services

Learning Services (SEN) Ltd works hard to promote good practice as outlined in the SEN Code of Practice. It works in partnership with schools, providing a close, personal and bespoke service to consider longer term whole-school goals of inclusion as well as addressing more immediate challenges and barriers to inclusion.

Holistic approach to addressing special educational needs

Learning Services (SEN) Ltd aims to provide a responsive, flexible, high quality service that works in harmony with schools to achieve their longer term goals of inclusion and supports their immediate needs. The service advocates a holistic approach to addressing individual pupil needs and is a move away from a pupil-deficit model of support provision.

Regions

Although established in Warwickshire, Learning Services (SEN) Ltd is branching out to provide a service to all schools in neighbouring LEAs and nationally in the near future.
The service provides direct support and advice to schools as well as a range of consultancy and training services.

Research

The service also commits a percentage of time and resources to exploring new ways of working with children with special needs through action research. A focus over the past year has been on research into boys’ reading difficulties with a particular focus on Key Stage 2, with excellent initial results.

Products

As a response to the interest generated from the research into boys’ reading difficulties, read2succeed © will be available as a training manual and DVD for schools in the Summer 2006. Our website giving more details and information will be launched soon…
